Template Interviewing
STAR interview template
A per-candidate scoring sheet built around the STAR method. Print one per candidate, score as you go, and keep it with the requisition.
How to use it
For each competency, ask for a real past example and listen for all four parts: Situation, Task, Action, Result. Then score against the anchors.
The scoring anchors
| Score | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| 1 | Vague or hypothetical; no clear action the candidate personally took. |
| 3 | A real example with a clear action, but thin on result or ownership. |
| 5 | Specific situation, the candidate’s own action, and a measurable result. |
The rules
- Score evidence, not impressions — write down what they said.
- Use the same competencies for every candidate on the requisition.
- Your sheet is a legal record. Keep it factual and keep it.
